One of the most common questions we get from Pretoria parents is: “What do we do about Lunchbox Buddy when the kids are on school holidays?”

South African public school terms have varied breaks, from a short week in March to the long summer holiday in December. Here is how Lunchbox Buddy works around the academic calendar.

We Are a Month-to-Month Service

First and foremost, Lunchbox Buddy operates on a flexible, month-to-month basis. You are not locked into a rigid annual contract. You simply order a box for the months you need it.

Short Holidays (One Week Breaks)

During terms that have a short one-week break, many parents still choose to order their standard 20-day box.

  • Holiday Snacking: Kids still need snacks when they are at home! The box is incredibly handy for holiday playdates, trips to the park, or simply managing the constant “Mom, I’m hungry” requests.
  • Rollover: Because our snacks are predominantly non-perishable with good shelf lives, any leftover items can simply roll over to be used in the first week of the new term.

Long Holidays (December / January)

For the long summer break, school is often out for four to six weeks.

  • We typically adjust our delivery schedules during this period. We may offer a specialized ‘Holiday Survival Box’ designed more for home snacking, or we may pause deliveries entirely for December and resume in mid-January, just in time for the ‘Back to School’ rush.
  • We will always communicate our holiday schedule clearly via WhatsApp and on our website well in advance, so you are never caught off guard.

The Benefit of Flexibility

If you are going away for a full month and won’t need a box, you simply don’t place an order for that cycle. There are no penalty fees or complicated cancellation forms.

When you are back and ready for the convenience of sorted lunchboxes, just send us a WhatsApp, and your Buddy will be back on your doorstep!
